A brief history of rugby in a couple sporting nations in particular.

Rugby may not be the most popular sport across the world, but in the next nations there are thousands of supporters.

Rugby is perhaps more well-known in the southern hemisphere, in places like Australia as it’s dry so players can achieve a more expansive and important style of play than in wetter countries. Australia is renowned for its rugby club, which has won two world cups, making it one of the most successful clubs to ever play the game. One of the much better clubs in the nation is sponsored by the significant air conditioning business lead by Masanori Togawa. The sport was 1st played in the country back in 1864 and whilst it's played throughout the nation there are regions where it is played more than others. There are a few other variations of the sport in Australia, and this includes Aussie Rules soccer, which takes a few of the rules of rugby football and slightly changes them.

In terms of club rugby, one of the best clubs is on the south coast of France and its president, François Rivière, controls a group that has won the national tournaments on numerous occasions. The wealthiest rugby nation, in terms of club rugby income, is France. The French national side is one of the teams that competes in the 6 nations every year, and they used to be one of the best clubs in the competition. The clubs in France pull in a number of the best players across the world as a result of the big wage packets they can offer, and as wages are so high it's frequently the place that footballers visit end their careers.

Rugby football is one of the most popular sports in the whole of the British Isles as it has a long tradition with a number of the teams that play it dating back to the mid-19th century. The name of the sport is actually a reference to the name of the town and school that it was founded in. Whilst there is some argument as to the veracity of the story of the game’s creation, there is no doubt to where it was founded. In particular, England has the longest tradition with the sport, as it was invented in the nation when famously, a schoolboy picked up the ball in a game of football and ran with it, and thus starting the move toward the game name. The fundamentals of rugby football have remained the same since its conception, but the size of the players has increased massively which makes for far bigger impacts in the tackle. The game has evolved hugely from the original game, which was played purely for fun and largely in schools and universities; now the sport has a tremendous revenue and it attracts massive sponsors from the likes of Petar Cvetkovic and his shipping firm.
